How to Fix Hot Water Problems in Your Shower

No one would want to be faced with a shower that doesn’t provide hot water after a long day of work or vacation. Showers are the ways to start and end the days for most people, and when they don’t go as expected, the day isn’t off to a good start or a good closure. This is one of the most common plumbing problems homeowners face, and there can be many reasons behind this issue. Luckily, some of the common ones are relatively easier to fix, and others can still be taken care of by a professional plumber. In this article, we will go over some of the ways you can fix the hot water issue you’re experiencing regarding your shower and how Mr. Rooter Plumbing can help you fix it.

Thermostat and Sediment Buildup

Sometimes the issue is as easy as the water heater that is set to a lower temperature than normal. Most water heaters feature a thermostat dial that may be adjusted. Check that the thermostat on your water heater is set to the temperature. The thermostat on a water heater should be set between 122 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit to provide warm water. So, first check if the temperature is set in the right range. Sometimes, even when it’s set at the correct temperature, due to insufficient maintenance, there can be buildup, even if the thermostat is adjusted correctly. You can fix this problem by draining and then cleaning the water heater.

Pilot Light

If you have a gas water heater, the pilot light might be gone out. To fix this, you need to relight the pilot light. This usually works when you press the reset button while lighting the pilot light with an approved lighter that is mentioned in the manufacturer’s instructions. However, if you don’t feel comfortable enough to do this on your own, of course you can contact professionals.

Frozen Pipes

If you’ve been observing this problem, especially on the colder days, it might be because of the frozen pipes that prevent hot water from getting to your shower. If you are able to find the affected pipe, you may try to warm the pipe with a safe source of heat like a hairdryer or a heater. Other times, however, when the water inside pipes can freeze, it can expand and potentially cause the pipes to crack or burst.

Reliable Experts for Your Plumbing Needs

Like we mentioned before, insufficiently hot showers might result from a variety of underlying problems, and there are certain steps you can take to solve some of them at home; major plumbing issues should be handled by specialists to prevent risks. So, if you’ve tried these tips we mentioned yet still don’t see any results, skilled plumbers of Mr. Rooter Plumbing are always here to find solutions to improve the comfort and effectiveness of your shower.
